This USF Faculty Toolkit provides you with the information and resources necessary to support your course delivery if disruption occurs and there is a need to provide flexible components to meet faculty and ܽƵapp teaching and learning objectives.
asynchronous remote instruction
For short-term asynchronous instruction, here are a few options to consider.
Review your content and assignment plans, keeping your focus on the overall Student Learning Outcomes for the course. Consider picking up where you left off before the disruption.
- Focus on the learning experiences, practices, and activities most important for ܽƵapp’s academic development.
- Adjust due dates and assignment/exam dates, allowing time as necessary for ܽƵapps to return to learning.
- Adjust the semester to reduce your own stress, and that of your ܽƵapps. Be mindful of the emotional stresses existing on you and your ܽƵapps as you adjust your semester.
- Remember ܽƵapps are adjusting all of their courses at the same time.
- Continue to be flexible with individual ܽƵapps that may be dealing with greater losses and challenges from the disruption.

Get Organized and Use Canvas
- Let ܽƵapps know how to contact you and how you will contact them.
- Use Canvas announcements to send general communications to all ܽƵapps in your class immediately and frequently.
- Put all assignments with due dates in your Canvas course if you have not already done so. This includes quizzes, written assignments, and exams. Bulk edit existing assignment due dates to allow for more time.
- Be flexible and stay connected to your ܽƵapps.
Alternative Asynchronous Content and Assignments
Alternative asynchronous content and assignments should be designed to engage ܽƵapps in an equitable amount of learning related to your course to maintain academic integrity and progression through the course. Some possible suggestions include:
- Create a presentation or lecture for ܽƵapps to engage asynchronously
- Record your live classroom session in Teams
- Share the recording with your ܽƵapps in Canvas with transcription and captioning.
- Create a new presentation and post in Canvas with transcription and captioning.
- Create a video - Innovative Education's Digital Learning teams on all three campuses
can assist with this. Film at one of our studios or faculty production suites in St.
Pete, Sarasota-Manatee and. Tampa.

- Create online discussion boards to keep ܽƵapps interacting with you and each other.
- Create quizzes and assessments.
- Create other interactive content to engage ܽƵapps.
