Curriculum Vitae
Background
Dr. Banack holds a BA and MA from the ܽƵapp of Connecticut. She holds a PhD in Literacy Studies from the ܽƵapp of Tennessee, Knoxville. She began her teaching career as a high school teacher in East Hartford, Connecticut where she taught 9th grade English Language Arts.
Teaching
Dr. Banack teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in English teaching methods. She specializes in integrating contemporary literature to engage young readers. Her courses emphasize ܽƵapps walking away with pragmatic tools to meet the needs of their future ܽƵapps.

Research
Dr. Banack’s research focuses on integrating contemporary youth literature to engage young readers. Through her research, she aims to support secondary educators integrate youth literature through a variety of strategies such as adding excerpts, planning literature circles, or utilizing youth literature as whole class novels. Her research also emphasizes university partnerships through cross university and secondary collaborations.
Service
She is currently a column editor for for the column “Telescopes: Possibilities in YAL.” Dr. Banack was a former co-editor of for a five-year term. She is also an elected board member of with her term ending in 2025.
