Alumnus recognized as ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp Scholar at ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp of Montevallo

Gregory Samuels, M.Ed. ‘08 & Ph.D. ‘14

College of Education Alumnus Gregory Samuels, M.Ed. ‘08 & Ph.D. ‘14, was named the 2019-20 ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp Scholar at the ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp of Montevallo in Montevallo, Ala.

Samuels is a graduate of the ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp’s (USF) Social Science Education program. Since graduating from USF, he has worked as an assistant ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp of secondary education at the ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp of Montevallo, where he teaches classes on African American Studies, classroom management, diversity, literacy and social justice. His research explores teaching and learning for social justice, facilitation of critical pedagogy in secondary classrooms, and practices to ensure inclusive representation of marginalized voices throughout the social studies curriculum.

The ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp Scholar is an annual recognition that honors a faculty member at the ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp of Montevallo who demonstrates exemplary strides in creativity, research and scholarship. Samuels will be formally honored at the ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp of Montevallo’s annual Founder’s Day ceremony in October and will make a faculty-wide public presentation of his work in the 2019-20 academic year.
