Muhittin Cavusoglu, PhD, is an assistant ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp in Sarasota-Manatee. Before joining USF, he was an assistant ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp at the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management and director of the Hospitality Digital Transformation Lab at Northern Arizona ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp.
Cavusoglu’s research philosophy is rooted in advancing interdisciplinary knowledge across technology adoption, consumer behavior, and education within hospitality and tourism. He explores emerging innovations such as AI, automation, neural text-to-speech technology, and digital transformation to enhance service quality, operational efficiency, customer experience, satisfaction, and behavioral intentions across the hospitality and tourism industry.
He has contributed to over 60 academic publications, including refereed journal articles in SSCI-indexed and ABDC-ranked journals; non-refereed journal articles; conference proceedings and stand-up and poster presentations; book chapters; and editor, associate editor, or assistant editor of book and proceedings.
He has received multiple awards, including the Best Paper Awards from the Academy for Global Business Advancement (2018) and the Western Decision Sciences Institute Conference (2016), the Best Research Method Award from the International Hospitality Information Technology Association (2022), and the 2020 Emerald Literati Award for Outstanding Paper.
Cavusoglu has taught a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses. At USF, he taught courses including Hospitality Information Systems, Management Accounting and Finance in the Hospitality Industry, Cost Control in Hospitality Operations, Business Communications, Event Management, Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism, and International Food and Culture.
He has taught the graduate-level course Managerial Accounting and Finance for the Hospitality Industry. His international teaching experience includes a Business Communications at the ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp of International Business and Economics in China in 2021, as well as two courses, Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism and Introduction to Research, in Kazakhstan in 2018.
Cavusoglu is an active member of academic and professional hospitality associations. He is managing editor for the Journal of Business Insights and the associate editor for the Journal of Global Education and Research. As director of international conferences for the Association of North America Higher Education International, he organizes global academic conferences. He's held leadership roles (president, vice president, and director of technology) with the West Federation CHRIE and is a member of Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals.
Cavusoglu earned a PhD from USF in 2019, focusing on online and self-directed learning in hospitality education. He earned a master's degree in Hospitality Management from USF, with a thesis on technology applications in restaurants. He earned a bachelor's degree in Tourism and Hotel Management from Bilkent ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp, Turkey, and a bachelor's degree in Public Administration from Anadolu ÅÝܽÊÓƵapp, Turkey. He completed the prestigious Certified Hospitality Technology Professional and the Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive certifications.
